ConTrail, part 3 of 5: Personal accounts

From Richard:
Well I am at work, feeling weary, but very relaxed.
Paul: thanks for the concept, the organization and a lot of the labour; pass thanks on to Paula too please.

Rest of you: thanks for the companionship.

I had a great time. Highlights include Hummbug - the song that everyone knew when they saw it, but could not recognize, and Paul almost winning despite being rules reading at the time.
Titan: a hard fought game, with memorable moment of Alex's appeal to Lucky Jim and then rolling some obscene number of hits, followed by Marcus' reply with a 1 in 512 chance of no hits which allowed Alex to survive.

Euphrat and Tigris: constant conflict but little damage left every empire vulnerable, and Craig as perceived leader being hammered at every opportunity while in reality just limping along.

From Pat:
I had a great time. Thanks all.

Highlights for me were:
- finding the "empire breakup move" in E&T involving a river sacrifice. I said at the time that even if I came last, I'll be pleased and satisfied after that, but it turned out to be the key to victory after all.
- overcoming the last Betrayal, requiring a 2/27 shot (I believe) to escape the abyss after all around me, including my Ox, had perished (oh, Ox). Cue the helicopter coming in with a winch during the closing credits to lift me out of there ...
- admiring the repartee whilst playing Roma Aeterna
- Alex's werewolf death scene
- Being income positive in round 2 of Age Of Steam (which, if you've ever played ...)
- Watching Mikey valiantly attempting to be in perpertual commotion
- Getting a night's sleep without kids climbing into bed at some stage.
